Day by Day Itinerary

You'll depart from Anchorage (additional fee) or Fairbanks in the morning aboard Alaska Airlines bound for Barrow. En route, you'll cross the Arctic Circle.

  • Passengers departing from Anchorage depart at 6:00 a.m. on Alaska Airlines Flight 55
  • Passengers departing from Fairbanks depart at 7:37 a.m. on the continuing segment of the same flight
  • The flight arrives in Barrow at 10:18 a.m.*

Highlights

  • You may see snowy owls, eider ducks and others of the 230 bird species which summer here.
  • Touch the Arctic Ocean. Walk on tundra and permafrost.
  • Stand in a whale bone arch and inside the skeletal jaws of a bowhead whale on the shore of the Arctic Ocean.
  • Learn about the original village site mounds, which have been dated to 1200 A.D.
  • See where the Inupiat Eskimos have historically conducted whaling festivals.
  • Travel to the northern-most community in North America.
  • Back to Barrow for lunch on your own.
  • Experience and take part in traditional Inupiat dancing and see other demonstrations including a blanket toss. Time to shop for local arts and crafts will follow at the new Inupiat Heritage Center and Museum.

You'll say goodbye to Barrow and its Midnight Sun as you board Alaska Airlines departing for Fairbanks and Anchorage.

Return departures to Fairbanks and Anchorage will be on Alaska Airlines evening flight 52 which departs Barrow at 8:01 p.m.*

  • The flight arrives in Fairbanks at 9:21 p.m.
  • Then continues on to Anchorage, arriving at 11:00 p.m.
